Multiple Dots Complex Figures

Multiple Dots Complex Figures: These type of problems involve a cluster of three or more geometrical figures - usually triangle, square, rectangle or/and circle having multiple dots placed at any point inside the cluster. This cluster is followed by a set of  four alternative figures each composed of a cluster of same type of figures. Now, for each dot we have to observe the region in which it  is enclosed, i.e. to which of the geometrical figures this region is common. Then, we look for such a region in the four alternatives. Once we have found it, we repeat the procedure for other dots, if any. The alternative figure which contains all such regions is the answer. Let us try few examples.

Illustration : In the following question, figures in the four option A, B, C and D are given, select the one which satisfies the same conditions of placement of the dot as in the question figure.

A

B

C

D

Answer : D

Solution : In the question figure, there are three dots and four geometrical figures square, rectangle, circle and triangle. Out of the three dots:

Dot A: One dot lies in the region common to the circle and the square only.

Dot B: One dot lies in the region common to all the four figures, i.e. square, rectangle, circle and triangle.

Dot C: One dot lies in the region common to the rectangle and the circle only.

Now, out of the four options, only figure in option D has these three different types of regions as shown :

The shaded portions in the following figures show the three types of regions :

In the figure below the shaded region shows the region common to square and circle only so  Dot A can be placed

In the figure below the shaded region shows the region common to all the four shapes. Dot B can be placed

In the figure below the shaded region shows the region common to rectangle and circle only. Dot C can be placed

As in the figure in option D all the three dots can be placed so Option D is the correct answer
